Must a Funeral Director Pay the Costs of Providing for an Interpreter if the Family Requests Such Services?

Yes: The federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) classifies a hearing impediment as a “disability” in like manner as many others. As such, a funeral director would be responsible for these costs because the interpreter is needed as part of funeral services for which the director is levying a charge. This is also true even if the interpretive services are required outside of a funeral home, such as in a church or synagogue.
