June 2024 President Message

The month of June ushers NYSFDA into its yearly election period. Three of the nine regions in our association will have a new Regional Director by the end of the voting period. Voting for these Regional Directors is a localized vote from within those three specific regions. A new Secretary will be chosen by the entire membership. I bring up these elections because as with any election this is a right of membership and a duty that all eligible voters should be honored to perform. Voting is done online and ends by the close of business Thursday, June 20. For those who will be casting a vote, I’d like to say thank you for being an important part of NYSFDA. For those who choose not to vote, please reconsider. This is a platform for your voice to be heard in NYSFDA.

June 6, also known as D-Day, will be remembered and honored on the 80th anniversary of that historic day. It is estimated that 131 World War II veterans die every day. Sixteen Million U.S. Military Veterans survived the war and came home to their families and loved ones, by the end of 2023 it is estimated that 119,550 are still alive. We should always thank our veterans for their service, this June 6 we should take that thanks to a higher level.

June 14 is celebrated as Flag Day. Our funeral home acts as a collection spot for old or worn American Flags. With the help of local veteran service organizations, we help to properly retire and dispose of those flags. These local grass root campaigns show how important our funeral homes are to the life blood and pulse of our individual communities.

June 16 is Father’s Day. Father’s Day celebrates all the fathers and father figures for the contribution they make in their children’s lives. Happy Father’s Day to all those perceived tough guys who scoff at the thought of a gift or flowers, but deep inside will cherish them.

In closing, on a strictly personal use of this space I’d like to say, Happy Anniversary Annette. The first 34 years flew by, let’s hope the next 34 are just as fun.

In partnership,

John O. D’Arienzo, NYSFDA President
