ALBANY, NY (August 17, 2016) -- Douglas R. Brueggemann owner of Brueggemann Funeral Home of East Northport, Inc., was installed Immediate Past President of the New York State Funeral Directors Association, Inc. (NYSFDA) at the organization's annual convention which concluded August 17, 2016, in Rochester, NY.
"I've been very fortunate to be part of a great leadership team. We've had great officers," said Brueggemann, who will serve as immediate past president for 2016-17.
The New York State licensed funeral director traveled back and forth between the State Capitol and East Northport while serving as the association's president.
Brueggemann said late-night phone calls from distraught family members didn't stop during his travels as NYSFDA president - but his dedicated staff at Brueggemann Funeral Home stepped up to ensure that families were well-taken care of.
A graduate of Northport High School, he studied Mortuary Science at the State University at Farmingdale before joining the family business of Brueggemann Funeral Home in East Northport in 1973.
Doug was one of the founding members of the Nassau-Suffolk Funeral Directors Association (NSFDA) in the mid-1980s, and served as the association's president from 1994-1996.
Doug is the co-chair of the NSFDA Emergency Response Team. On the state level, Doug has been a Board member of NYSFDA since 1997, serving on many committees, including chair of both the Disaster Committee and Family Assistance Commission.
Founded in 1889, NYSFDA's mission is to promote the highest standards of funeral service to the public and to enhance the environment in which its members operate. More than 900 member firms and 3300 licensed funeral directors who operate across the state belong to the New York State Funeral Directors Association. In addition to maintaining a website at www.nysfda.org, NYSFDA also publishes brochures and information which educate and inform consumers about end-of-life issues.
