New York State Funeral Directors Association

Hello and Happy New Year to All

The holidays are over and a new year has begun. I hope you all had a very happy and healthy holiday season and were able to gift yourselves some ME TIME.

Your Association Staff and Officers are still busy working for you-OUR MEMBERS. The December meetings were very busy and productive as well as informative. The NYSFDA Board passed a very responsible, comprehensive and efficient budget for the New Year as well as setting our Legislative priorities

The Patronage Program is in effect and allows us to provide another benefit to our members. You can read more about this program in Executive Director Mike Lanotte’s message on the following pages. And speaking of benefits, please do not forget to renew your membership. You can do so by going online or completing your dues invoice that will be coming in the next week or so. Remember-MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS PRIVILEGES!!!! Thank you in advance for renewing and maybe encourage a colleague that’s not a member to join this great association, we offer a lot for the dues.

Another important message that I would like to share with you all, will be our Regional Meetings in the spring of 2020. We have some very important topics to discuss and share with you regarding the future of Funeral Service in New York State. They include; Paraprofessional, alcohol in funeral homes, potential changes to the Final Disposition Law, potential NYSFDA Chapter Model for Local Associations and Pre-Plan Trust Services. These are all important topics that we as your Association Leaders need to hear from you on how to proceed. The meetings will be held from April 27 to May 7, 2020 and we will be coming to a region near you. Exact times, dates and locations will be sent out in the future. So please, come and share your voice and opinions, the outcome will affect us all in how we operate in the future. I look forward to seeing you all !!! And as a side note, the meetings WILL NOT BE CEU offered, but that really should not matter since we are talking about our licenses-RIGHT?!

In closing I would like to thank you all for the opportunity to serve as your President and the trust and confidence you have in myself, my fellow officers and this great association. It is not taken lightly and as always “To enhance the environment in which our Members operate and to promote the Highest Standards of Funeral Service to the Public”.

Best Wishes

Richard J. Sullivan
