Job Purpose


Reporting to the Executive Director, NYSFDA’s Director of Marketing and Communications guides the strategy
for all marketing and communications messages and print and electronic collateral for the Association and its subsidiaries. The Director of Marketing and Communications leads the strategic development of a brand marketing plan to increase brand relevance, drive customer growth and create interest for NYSFDA and its subsidiaries, PrePlan, Directors Choice Credit Union and the New York State Tribute Foundation. The Director of Marketing and Communications works closely with a senior staff within the organization as a partner on a variety of strategic initiatives.

 

Responsibilities

 

Marketing

  • Directs the planning and execution of marketing strategies throughout the year to ensure that goals are carried out in a timely manner and within budget
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to execute marketing campaigns
  • Visits membership as needed to promote programs and services
  • Creates/proofs marketing and advertising collateral for accuracy and brand consistency
  • Assesses market opportunities and market trends
  • Conducts surveys

Publications

  • Oversees the development of newsletters, advertisements, posters, directories, catalogs, manuals,
    flyers and brochures

Technology

  • Oversees the creation and maintenance of web content
  • Ensures new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly and
    optimized for search engines
  • Works with third-parties on web projects as needed
  • Creates and manages the NYSFDA app
  • Sends SMS text alerts

Graphic Design/Photo Editing

  • Oversees the creation of marketing and communications materials
  • Procures and edits photos for publications

Video

  • Writes scripts and shoots video content for the Association and its subsidiaries
  • Edits videos with provided animation tools
  • Records voice-overs for video productions

Media

  • Monitors media for stories pertaining to funeral service
  • Creates and launches press releases
  • Manage media contacts and inquiries
  • Drive message development, pitch and announcement strategies
  • Creates message maps for senior staff and selected member spokespeople

Reporting

  • Tracks and measures the level of engagement for social media, web and marketing initiatives
  • Prepares reports to leadership as needed for the Executive Director

Supervision

  • Hires, trains and supervises Marketing and Communications Department staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or appropriate field and at least 5-10
    years of experience preferred
  • Experience developing and implementing marketing/communications strategies that includes
    advocacy
  • High energy, maturity and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position
    marketing and communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new
    initiatives
  • Travel will be required to fulfill assigned responsibilities
  • Experience with web publishing, graphics design, video and photo editing and social media marketing
  • Impeccable layout, writing and copy-editing skills
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, MS Outlook and Joomla!
    (Adobe Spark, Animoto, Bitable, MovieMaker, Powtoon and Fireworks is also a plus)
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards for accuracy
  • Team player with excellent verbal and customer service/business relations skills
